Horry County
Horry County Schools‘ vision is to be a premier, world-class school system in which every student acquires an excellent education. Our schools will be welcoming centers organized around high-quality teaching and learning. The countywide school district encompasses 51 schools in the nine attendance areas of Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Conway, Socastee, North Myrtle Beach, Loris, Aynor, Green Sea Floyds and St. James. Horry County Schools, with more than 42,000 students, is South Carolina’s third largest school district.
If you move to the Murrells Inlet area, your child will either attend Georgetown or Horry County Schools. For example children in Wachesaw Plantation attend Georgetown County, but children who live in Prince Creek need to check the county line because it is located in both counties.
Georgetown and Horry Registration
All children between the ages of 5 and 17 (by Sept. 1) must enroll in school. All children eligible for kindergarten have the opportunity to attend full-day classes. Contact the school district’s Office of Student Support Services to find out which school your child will attend, and visit the school to register your child.
To register, students must have:
- A Valid Birth Certificate
- Proof of immunization on a South Carolina Certificate of Immunization form
- Documentation of residence in their school’s county
- A social security number
- License plate number and vehicle registration information
